Colonoscopy

A Colonoscopy is a flexible camera that is passed from anus through the colon to assess the inside lining of the colon.
It is performed under deep sedation by an anesthetist so that you do not experience any discomfort, and is a day only procedure.
Indications
1. Bleeding
2. Positive stool blood test (FOBT)
3. Iron deficiency anaemia
4. Previous polyps or bowel cancer
5. Diarrhoea
6. Family history of bowel cancer
You will be required to take a bowel preparation the day prior to the colonoscopy and only have clear fluids. Once complete you may resume a normal diet but will require someone to pick you up afterwards, as you cannot drive for 24 hours.
